ABOUT THE DEVELOPER
What Seshat stands for
The beliefs behind a conlang creator made by one worldbuilder, for other language creators.
A made language should feel real
Every human language is a system: a small set of sounds, rules for how they combine, and patterns for building words that its speakers never stop to think about. That structure is why a real language holds together and a random name generator or AI tool can’t produce a consistent language.
Seshat is built on that structure and measured against real languages, so what you make feels real and unlike anyone else's.
You should learn as you go
You do not need a linguistics background to begin. Every choice shows its effect at once: the sample words change, the sound plays when you click it, and the dashboard moves toward or away from a real language. You learn how languages work by watching your own take shape, one decision at a time.
The work is the point
Making a language is a craft, and its worth is in the choices made, the phonetic rules selected, the grammatical patterns, the words coined. A tool that makes those choices for you has taken the one part that mattered. So Seshat does not use AI to invent your language. The generator is an algorithm that runs on the phonemes and rules you chose, and nothing else, so every word and phrase it produces traces back to a decision you made.
A language is a creative work
A constructed language is a creative work for those who create worlds in their minds where someone speaks their language. Seshat is a tool for the people who make those worlds: novelists and worldbuilders, game and film makers, and linguists who build for the pleasure of it. What you create here is yours to carry into your own work, in any medium, commercial or not.
Built with its community
Seshat is made by one worldbuilder and it is pre-alpha by choice: the Phonology section is live now, and the rest will open as it is ready. It is shaped by the people who use it. What you tell us, what you wish it did, and what gets in your way decides what is built next. This is a tool for the conlanger community, made with it.
Seshat is named for the Egyptian goddess of writing, wisdom, measurement, and record. That is the idea behind it: to write a language, to measure each of its parameters, and to keep the record of a world that did not exist until someone decided to build it.
