Terms of Service
Last updated: June 1, 2026
These Terms of Service govern your use of Seshat, a conlang creation workspace operated by Seshat ("we", "us"), based in Mexico City, Mexico. By creating an account or using the service at app.conlangcreator.com, you agree to these terms.
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Copyright Policy, and Refund Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Seshat regarding your use of the service.
1. The service
Seshat is a browser-based tool for designing constructed languages. It is currently in early-access alpha. Features may change, be removed, or be temporarily unavailable. Data loss is possible during this period, though we take reasonable precautions to prevent it. We provide no guarantee that the service will be available, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose.
2. Your account
You may create an account using Google, Discord, or an email address and password. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must be at least 13 years old to use Seshat. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these terms on your behalf. One account per person. You may not create accounts to circumvent limits or suspensions.
3. Your content
You own the languages, phonologies, lexicons, grammars, and other content you create in Seshat ("your content"). We do not claim ownership of it. You grant Seshat a limited, non-exclusive licence to store and transmit your content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. We do not read, process, or use your content for any other purpose. You can export your data and delete your account at any time. Account deletion permanently deletes all associated content from our systems, including all stored languages.
4. Data Seshat collects and uses
Seshat collects anonymised aggregate statistics to improve the word-generation formula and service quality. These statistics include: phoneme frequency distributions, section completion rates, generation counts, and word count totals. This data does not include the content of your languages, your language names, or any information that could be traced back to you or your account. We do not sell this data to third parties. We do not train external AI models on your content. For full details on what we collect and how we handle it, see our Privacy Policy.
5. Platform ownership
Seshat's software, word-generation engine, data models, user interface, and all associated systems are owned by Seshat and are protected by applicable intellectual property law. Nothing in these terms transfers any ownership of the platform to you.
You may not reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, or attempt to extract Seshat's generation logic, data, or source code.
6. Commercial use of your content
Content you create using Seshat, including languages, phonologies, writing systems, lexicons, grammars, and any exported files, may be used for any purpose, including commercial use, regardless of your subscription tier. You do not need to credit Seshat when publishing or distributing content you created with it.
7. Copyright and DMCA
Seshat respects intellectual property rights and complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and equivalent international provisions. If you believe content on the platform infringes your copyright, or if you believe your content was removed in error, see our Copyright and DMCA Policy for the full process. Send notices to hello@conlangcreator.com with the subject line "Copyright claim" or "DMCA counter-notice."
Seshat will terminate the accounts of users determined to be repeat infringers.
8. Account inactivity
Accounts that have been inactive for more than 24 consecutive months may be terminated and their associated data permanently deleted. We will send at least 30 days' notice to the email address associated with your account before taking this action. You may reactivate your account at any time before the notice period expires by signing in.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
Use automated tools to call Seshat's API in bulk, scrape generated content, or bypass usage limits
Create multiple accounts to circumvent limits, suspensions, or the freemium plan
Attempt to access another user's data
Use the service to generate, store, or share content that is illegal, abusive, or harmful Interfere with the service's infrastructure, authentication, or security
10. Account suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Grounds include: bulk API abuse, automated scraping of generated content, fraudulent chargebacks, repeated creation of accounts to bypass limits, any attempt to access or interfere with another user's data, and any use that materially harms other users or the service. Where possible, we will notify you before suspension and give you an opportunity to resolve the issue. We reserve the right to terminate accounts immediately in cases of serious abuse. You may delete your account at any time from the Profile section of the app. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
11. Payments and refunds
Seshat offers paid features available through a one-time unlock or a recurring monthly subscription. All transactions are processed by Stripe as merchant-of-record. The fee will be stated clearly at checkout before you are charged. You will receive a receipt by email after payment.
You may request a full refund within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked, regardless of where you are located. For monthly subscriptions, the 14-day window applies to each billing period. To request a refund, email hello@conlangcreator.com with the subject line "Refund request" and include the email address associated with your account. Refunds are returned to the original payment method and processed within 5 to 10 business days.
After 14 days, refunds are issued at our discretion and only in cases of documented technical failure on our part.
You may cancel a monthly subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you will not be charged again.
If you file a chargeback instead of contacting us, your account may be suspended pending resolution. We encourage you to reach out directly first.
See our full Refund Policy.
12. No warranties
The service is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any data will be preserved without loss. Given that Seshat is in alpha, you should not rely on it as the sole location for language work you cannot afford to lose. We recommend keeping backups of content that matters to you.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Seshat and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the service. Our total liability for any claim arising from these terms or your use of the service will not exceed the amount you paid to Seshat in the 12 months prior to the claim, or $10 USD if you have not made any payment. Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights under the consumer protection laws of your country of residence. EU and UK users retain all rights granted under applicable consumer protection legislation.
14. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Seshat and its operators from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or connected with: your content; your use or misuse of the service; your violation of these terms; or your violation of any rights of a third party. We reserve the right to assume exclusive control of any matter subject to indemnification by you, in which case you agree to cooperate with our defense.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If the changes are material, we will notify you by email (if you have email notifications enabled) or by notice in the app at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the service after the effective date of updated terms constitutes acceptance.
16. Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Mexico City (Ciudad de Mexico), Mexico, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, you may also be entitled to bring a claim before the courts of your country of residence under EU consumer protection law, and you may have access to the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. If you are a consumer resident in the United Kingdom, you retain the right to bring a claim before UK courts under applicable UK consumer protection law. For all other disputes, both parties agree to first attempt to resolve the matter by email before initiating legal proceedings.
